Les Claypool—one of the most innovative bassists of the past few decades—is best known as the bassist and lead vocalist of the band Primus, one of the strangest bands of the 90s. They even headlined Lollapalooza in ’93, despite their experimental “funk metal” sound that had yet to catch on.
If you were a Guitar Hero nerd like me, you’d probably recognize Primus’ “John the Fisherman”—but the band has a big discography that didn’t get as much recognition.
Les Claypool recently rated his favourite Primus bands:
7. Antipop (1999)
6. Tales from the Punchbowl (1995)
5. Brown Album (1997)
4. Green Naugahyde (2011)
3. Pork Soda (1993)
2. Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991)
1. Frizzle Fry (1990)
You can also catch Primus here in Edmonton at the Jubilee Auditorium on September 12th on the Primus and the Chocolate Factory tour. Tickets are still on sale.
