Edmonton mbira player Chaka Zinyemba will open his first exhibit as a visual artist with “Faces of Color” on Saturday, June 13, and will run until June 27 at the ArtStream Center.

Zinyemba, who was born and raised in Zimbabwe before moving to Edmonton in 2008, is currently the artist-in-residence of the Robertson-Wesley United Church and was the recipient of the 2015 EMCN Arts and Culture Award.

Curated by Lori Youngman, the show is mainly comprised of vibrant and colorful depictions of different faces.

Karla Comanda completed her degree in Comparative Literature, with a minor in Creative Writing, at the University of Alberta. She moved to Canada in 2009 in the middle of her Journalism studies at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. Her work has appeared in The Gateway, The Varsitarian, and Glass Buffalo. She was featured last year in Litfest: Edmonton's Nonfiction Festival.
